Fire Detection Unlimited, Inc. (FDU) is a Fire Alarm Distribution, Construction & Service Company located in Concord, California. We service the needs of General Contractors, Building Owners, Building Engineers, Electrical Contractors, and Electrical Engineers in the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Primary services include Engineering and Design of fire alarm/life safety systems, obtaining fire alarm/life safety permits, resale of fire alarm equipment, system programming, system testing, project management, assisting in pre and final system testing with local Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), and system maintenance and monitoring. FDU has experience in both new and retrofit construction and is a specialist in Code Compliance issues and Design-Build construction. They have the skills necessary to service and maintain any type of fire alarm system. The Company holds a C-10 Electrical Contracting license and holds certification through Underwriters Laboratories (UL) in Protective Signaling Services.
Richard C. Pulver is certified through the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and holds a C-10 California Electrical Contracting License. He holds a degree in Technical Design, with a concentration in Electrical Design, from Essex College. Mr. Pulver has over 14 years experience in Electrical Design, 12 of which he has worked in the Fire Alarm/Life Safety industry.

Richard C. Pulver – Responsible Managing Officer, Principal Owner
Richard C. Pulver (CEO) is certified through the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET LEVEL 3), is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the California Automatic Fire Alarm Association (CAFAA), and holds a C-10 California Electrical Contracting License. Richard is the Responsible Managing Officer (RMO) of Fire Detection Unlimited, Inc (FDU). He holds a degree in Technical Design, with a concentration in Electrical Design, from Essex College. Mr. Pulver has over 18 years experience in Electrical Design, a good portion of which he has worked in the Fire Alarm/Life Safety industry.
Mr. Pulver started his career as a United States Marine, stationed in Hawaii for four years. After completing his tour and separating with honor, Richard returned to college focusing on his innate talent of Electrical Design. Richard worked directly under a Professional Electrical Engineer (EE) specializing on switches in Maryland. In 1992 Mr. Pulver relocated to Denver, Colorado where he landed his first job as a Fire Alarm Drafter with Protex Special Systems (PSS), a Notifier Fire Alarm Distributor/Contractor. Within one year he was promoted to Designer and shortly thereafter to Design Manager. Mr. Pulver grew the design department from three to fourteen Drafter/Designers.
In 2000, after PSS was purchased by the Tyco conglomerate Grinnell, Mr. Pulver relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area where he was hired as a Project Manager for EDS, a Notifier Fire Alarm Distributor/Contractor specializing in high-rise life safety. Mr Pulver gained critical experience in Project Management, and Technical Field work while with EDS. To further his knowledge base and career, Mr. Pulver moved on to New York home-based Firecom, Inc. where he was hired as a Sales Engineer in their Hayward, CA office. During that time he developed relationships with clients who still call him for work today. Firecom, Inc. closed its Bay Area doors shortly thereafter and Mr. Pulver was sought out by many companies for his employment. He joined the team of Schwartz & Lindheim, Inc., a Signatory Electrical Contractor, where he worked as their go to Fire Alarm Project Manager. While with S&L Mr. Pulver was a critical part in the completion of the 555 City Center Project in Oakland, CA.
Patricia A. Pulver – Principal Owner
Patricia A. Pulver (CFO) holds an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Dutchess Community College, a Bachelors Degree in Communications from Rutgers University, and an Executive Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Golden Gate University. She has over fifteen years of combined experience in Accounting, Human Resources and Corporate Operations in the Engineering and Construction industry. Mrs. Pulver has been a member of the Contra Costa Builders Exchange Board of Directors since 2004, of which she has served as both Treasurer and President.
Mrs. Pulver started her career in 1988 as a Bank Auditor for Ulster Savings Bank, New York. She was promoted into management at just 21 years old, where she was the youngest manager in the history of the bank, and had direct report to the bank Board of Directors (BOD).
In 1994 Mrs. Pulver left the bank to enlist in the United States Air Force where she worked as a Weather Forecaster. At that time she was selected for a 100% paid scholarship program to complete her Bachelors degree and gain her Commission. In 1998 Mrs. Pulver was Commissioned as an Officer while stationed at Travis Air Force Base, Fairfield, CA from 1998-2000. Upon separating from the Air Force to start a family she relocated to Walnut Creek where she worked for The Covello Group, Inc. a Walnut Creek based Construction Management Firm. Patricia worked directly for the Principal Owners of The Covello Group, Inc. of which she assisted in the Management of the Company.
After leaving The Covello Group, Inc. in November 2001 Mrs. Pulver and Mr. Pulver established Fire Detection Unlimited, Inc. (FDU) of which Mrs. Pulver is the integral Operations and Business expert.
